How the time flies... [Oct. 15th, 2004|03:21 pm]

Through various heroic technological efforts, I obtained a copy of GB quite a while ago. As other swgb entries suggest, it was a staple of my daily schedule for most of the following months, up until my good friend lizard_almighty introduced me to WarCraft III. Friends, I know that all of you are familiar enough with GB to recognize quality work wherever you find it; I'm confident that you understand my positive reaction to WarCraft III. Suffice it to say that my years of affinity for the StarCraft series made me an early fan of Blizzard Entertainment. Once I began to spend some time learning how to play WarCraft III with my friends' help, this allegiance was assured. (There are a few credits to GB which WC III hasn't duplicated yet; that's why I'm still interested in both games.)

Some disastrous electronic misfortunes robbed me of the ability to play either game as of the first third of last summer. I haven't yet reacquired a copy of either game, but I intend to pick up both of them as soon as it is convenient for me. When this happens, GB will again occupy a reasonable slice of my typical day, and my activity here will rise in turn.

How many of you are experienced with other real-time strategy games? When did you get introduced to them? How does GB compare to each of them? Are there any features of the other titles which might improve GB (in your opinions)? How could some of GB's strong points make other games even better?

[On a mostly random note, the maximum capacity cap for Transport Ships is 15 units and is not 150 units. Those of you with the bright idea of loading full Assault Mechs onto a Transport Ship will be sorely disappointed.]

Resurrection Attempt #πnª [Oct. 14th, 2004|05:19 pm]

Yes, I know I've tried this before, but I'll try it again. This time, I have a different tact. Also, I am on my first day of a four day weekend, so I have more free time in the next few days. :)

Question 1:
Who's still active/interested about SWGB/playing a mutiplayer game?

Question 2:
Who's involved with other Star Wars gaming exploits? (just to try to get things moving).

Well, my personal responses are:
1) Me!
2) I'm playing KOTOR (it's giving me problems on the underworld, though, which I am troubleshooting with Aspyr, the publisher), and it's an amazing game!

Now I’m back from vacation! Okay, let’s try to liven this place up like I said I would--let’s have a Mac multiplayer test (make sure everyone’s set up correctly, etc.) to prepare for a nice game.

When are us Macies free (this weekend, next week, etc?)

How Good are you? [Jun. 28th, 2004|12:04 pm]

In a probably futile effort to temporarily resurrect the community, I have a question which might help when multiplayer games (which WILL happen, I'll find time when I get back home--I'm on vacation in France now, I'll be back in half a month)--how good of a swgb player are you? I have a sinking feeling I'm the worst, but let's throw out the question.
I play (or I did play, it's been a while) uneven medium games (3v2), although I think I was getting the hang of 2v2 medium games. My problem is that I think small--I never build as many workers or troops as even easy computer players, and I play on forest world and wall myself in, defending the walls with turrets. It works pretty well unless the army is large enough to overwhelm the wall, in which case I am doomed.

When I play mutiplayer games with my friend (who I can try to rope into a multiplayer game, we have about the same skill level except he goes for huge flights of aircraft while I go more for collecting holocrons and sending jedi teams) we play 2v3 easy--every time we play on medium we get creamed by the computer player (the huge army comes, destroyes one player as the other player sends all the troops they have, and then attacks the other player). I need better tactics, but building huge fortresses is my way--I'm more of a technology and diplomacy person then a straight out fighter.

What about everyone else?

Anyone want a multiplayer game? [Feb. 24th, 2004|05:39 pm]

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m interested if anyone wants to play a multiplayer game--I think it would be a nice way to help us become a community. If anyone’s interested, I have a few questions for them:

1) Do you want to play straight SWGB or SWGB:CC?
2) Do you have the Mac or PC version (multiplayer aren’t compatible)?
3) Do you want to play against each other or team up against computer players?
4) What kind of map?
5) When are you availabe? (Time zone, days/times available, etc.)

Just trying to get some wheels turning... :)

Let's start with some questions. [Feb. 23rd, 2004|09:27 pm]

1] Do you believe each of the 8 different civilizations are distinct enough from the others, or is there too much similarity between 2 of them?

2] Imagine you're playing in a team battle, with exactly one partner. If you find a Holocron before your partner does, would you offer it to him or her, or would you capture it for your own use? (Would you act in the same way if Nursery animals are involved?)

3] Every civ has at least one unique unit at its command. Of course, they have different purposes, so my question is this: which one is the best at what it does (in your opinion)?

4] Do you have a Random Map preference?

As the law around these parts, I need to know of which I speak, so I play very frequently. I am not the best player you'll ever meet, but I hope to get better as the days go by. My personal style is rather secure; "turtling" is an unfair way to put it, but my offensive typically follows my defensive. Any fair advantage is one that I will use: nerfs and banthas live, Holocrons are located and retrieved ASAP, reconnaissance is gathered as necessary, relevant upgrades are completed without undue hesitation.

My favorite teams to field are the Wookiees and the Trade Federation, but all of them get turns with me to keep myself balanced. (If I am feeling particularly full of myself at a certain time, a game played as the Royal Naboo will help to keep me humble.) You'll get to know more about me soon enough, but now it's your turn to introduce yourself and your gameplay...
